St. Croix, the largest of the more than fifty-some islands and cays that comprise the United States Virgin Islands, is located in the very heart of the Caribbean Sea. The Island is 1700 miles south of New York, 1100 miles south-southeast of Miami, 100 miles southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and forty miles south of both St. Thomas and St. John. The island is 22.7 miles long and is 6.6 miles at its widest point. Blue Mountain, at 1096 feet, is the highest point on the Island. The Puerto Rican Trench, arcing between the Islands of St. Croix, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, and St. John, is one of the deepest parts of the Atlantic Ocean. The sunny, tropical climate averages daily temperatures of 85 to 90 degrees with a comfortable range in the mid-70 degrees at night. Rainfall usually arrives in brief showers and averages around 45 inches per year. The island of St. Croix consists of differing topographical extremes. The East End, the driest part of the island, hosts cactus, yucca, scrub vegetation, gentle hills, breathtaking vistas, yachts on the horizon, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, Point Udall (the easternmost point under the U.S. flag) and Buck Island.
Westward, as you head toward Frederiksted, the tropical vegetation begins to increase, and you find yourself passing through St. Croix's rain forest with an area of lush resorts, old plantations, and sugar-mill ruins. The coast has spectacular diving waters, beautiful beaches, and our USVI Resort.
